I too have a "larger that it should be" collection of kits. Some of these have fallen by the wayside as layout plans evolve, others have been disposed of as newer better models became available. I don't think you can be in this hobby for the long haul without this happening. It's just the nature of the beast. It does generate a certain amount of amusement whenever I hear someone lament that "nobody builds anything anymore" Yes we certainly do!Alan Houtzhttp://www.napmltd.orgnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3218524178230712938.post-46618335740762225242015-11-23T10:29:21.466-08:002015-11-23T10:29:21.466-08:00I entirely understand the display motivation. I have a couple of display cases myself, and have, for example, two English locomotive models in them, along with various freight cars of interest.
Tony ThompsonTony Thompsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11593061828601275378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3218524178230712938.post-21866682492244788772015-11-23T10:25:19.982-08:002015-11-23T10:25:19.982-08:00While I agree with everything you say, I am curren...While I agree with everything you say, I am current an arm-chair modeler. I have built about 150 freight car kits (mostly easier ones) which will fill out my roster once my layout begins. Over the next few decades I may replace them with more detailed kits or RTR cars.

It is always sad when I reach for my next kit from my "box of kits" and discover it is empty. I then search out train shows for more kits to build, but by then my winter season is frequently coming to a close. I can't wait for the day when I will actually have too much stuff to build!DandHColonieMainhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17665437234296761161noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3218524178230712938.post-36723549247841848412015-11-23T04:34:33.591-08:002015-11-23T04:34:33.591-08:00This column has struck a chord (nerve?). While my era is the mid-sixties I collect & build cars from the 1890-1910 period. I am referring to the work of small manufacturers such as John Canfield & Bob McGlone at Virginia Foundry & Model Works.
These resin kits build into models of prototypes unique even to their era in some cases. Such as an oyster car! Reason enough to purchase and build for a display collection.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
