I know people in several parts of the country are working toward more realistic waybill operating schemes, getting away from the old mini-bill "game cards," with virtually no information on them and essentially zero prototype appearance.

As you probably know, Keith Jordan's very interesting findings about the Los Angeles switching district (the "Patch") don't even extend to other Santa Fe yards in many cases, but represent a fascinating example of a particular district with a very specific system. To me, that means that if a prototype being chosen for modeling had something like that, you would want to try and model it; but also that your prototype may NOT have done anything like that, and you'd need to know that too.

If you have any SP paper, or paper for other Western roads, I would very much appreciate copies. I feel like I have a very sketchy collection, and would like to have a lot more available.
Tony ThompsonTony Thompsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11593061828601275378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3218524178230712938.post-60831938865128645842011-11-15T12:02:07.821-08:002011-11-15T12:02:07.821-08:00Tony - I might have some SP cards in my collection...Tony - I might have some SP cards in my collection, I'll take a look and see and scan them if I do.

Ralph H.Ralph Heisshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02555586703590480001noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3218524178230712938.post-61965843629583066562011-11-15T11:58:14.084-08:002011-11-15T11:58:14.084-08:00Hi Tony, really happy to see these posts on Car Ta...Hi Tony, really happy to see these posts on Car Tags. I myself have not only been a "fan" of the more realistic waybill "movement" for a few years now, and between myself and friend Dave Ramos here in New Jersey, we have been working with, and tweaking his waybill operation for about 2 years now. I am also familiar with Tony K.'s and Ted P.'s systems, which are worked and made slightly different than Dave's.

I myself am using a car card tag system for my car routing, as I model a terminal operation, and most cars simply roll right thru to connections, in my case, carfloats. In fact it was Jerry Dziedzic who told be about your blog, I'm glad I found out about it. If you're interested, I started my own at http://lvnyharbor.blogspot.com/. Even though I have yet to find out if the Lehigh Valley ever used such tags, I'm sure they must have, or had something similar, so I have adapted many of the samples I have collected from across the country to work for my situation, just like Keith Jordan uses them on his Patch layout, only mine is much larger (Not a huge layout, but much bigger than his at 11x20!).

Any way, hope to see and learn more about the SP's practices, thanks for sharing.
Ralph Heiss, South Plainfield, NJRalph Heisshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02555586703590480001noreply@blogger.com
