But the car does represent a common kind of rebuild from the very numerous USRA box cars, and thus offers a very different box car look if you notice the side sills. I would also mention that although we all need big groups of cars from the "big roads" (Pennsylvania, New York Central, SP, Santa Fe, B&O, etc.), we do need to have some of the "unusual" (meaning small) roads too. The KCS was not THAT small, with 5450 freight cars in 1953, and so is entirely reasonable as a representative of those smaller fleets.
Tony ThompsonTony Thompsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11593061828601275378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3218524178230712938.post-52746736473175391502012-08-04T12:06:51.622-07:002012-08-04T12:06:51.622-07:00Hi Tony;

American Models makes a suitable AAR boxcar, and S Helper has the center sill (used on their USRA boxcars and ACF reefers). I had to scratch build the side sills, including 64 rivets in two sizes! Fortunately, Mr. Glow was happy to print the decals in S. It is taking me a good deal longer than a weekend as well!

What I find interesting (and somewhat humorous) is that this car, with a whopping 92 prototype examples and a single extant photograph, has spawned three major articles in the model press as well as the clinic, and the model appears to have become a staple at Proto meets. Nothing wrong with that, but if you had predict what freight car would attract such extensive coverage, I doubt this one prototype would be it.N. E.
