All PFE cars were orange by 1937, but the old UP emblem with the word "SYSTEM" in the blue at the top of the shield, though superseded in 1936 was around probably until 1942. But the post-1936 UP shield was steadily replacing the older emblem. Likewise, black roofs began to be painted boxcar red around 1936, but there would have been lots of both colors until 1942.
