Naperville tank car handout

I prepared only an abbreviated handout on paper for my talk on “Modeling Transition-era Tank Cars,” presented at the Naperville, Illinois meeting of Railroad Prototype Modelers, October 18–20, 2012. That abbreviated, two-page text has been combined with additional modeling notes, and two pages of prototype photos of the tank cars described in the talk, to make the document now available at Google Drive (formerly Google Docs). Here is the link for anyone interested in downloading this document:

Hopefully this is helpful information to summarize and encapsulate my presentation at Naperville.

  2. Great resource. I'm assuming those are HO models listed; I vaguely recall some of them from when I modeled in HO 40 years ago as a child. It's too bad, considering the quickly rising popularity of N scale, that other scales weren't included in this list.

  3. You are right, all models cited are HO scale. I simply don't know enough about N scale to construct a table for N; but the formula for calculating volumes will still work. Scale inches are more difficult to determine precisely in smaller scales, but one can certainly get a good approximation to gallonage sizes.
